North Penn School District~
The North Penn School District is a Montgomery County, PA public school system that serves North Wales, Lansdale, Hatfield, Upper Gwynedd, Towamencin, Montgomery Township, Montgomeryville, and part of Line Lexington, PA.
The district's 1 high school, 3 middle schools, 13 elementary schools, and 1 alternative education high school serve nearly 13,000 students and employs approximately 2,000 staff. The district offers special support programs for gifted students as well as those needing life skills, emotional, learning, autistic, speech and language support.
In the elementary grades the curriculum covers reading and spelling through literature; hands-on math and science; local, state, national, and world studies of history and geography; physical education; art, music, and computer skills as well as music lessons and performance (chorus and orchestra) courses. The elementary schools also offer before- and after-school extended care programs.
During the middle school years the students continue and expand their studies and are able to choose elective courses based upon individual needs and interests. Some courses offered are business, computer applications, technology, music, art, and world languages. There are also many clubs to join that meet after school.
Northbridge Alternative High School offers small class sizes and specialized instruction for students who meet certain academic criteria and helps them make up lost credits. Staff includes Special Education teachers, classroom assistants, and a Behavior Specialist. The curriculum covers English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, Health, Physical Education, Technology Education, Art, and Career Development.
North Penn High School offers, in addiction to the core curriculum, accelerated programs in World Languages and Math. There are Honors classes in English, Social Studies, Science, World Languages, Music and Art. There are also Advanced Placement course that give college credit in Studio Art Drawing, Studio Art Design, Studio Art History, English Language, English Literature, Macro- and Micro-Economics; American, European History, and World History; Psychology, American Government & Politics, Computer Science, Calculus, Environmental Science, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Music Theory, and French, German, Latin and Spanish. NPHS students are also able to participate in North Montco Technical Career Center's on-site vocational programs for the construction trades, cosmetology, culinary arts, engineering, floral design, health and human services, power and transportation and visual communications.
Approximately 90% of NPHS students go on to college, technical or vocational schools. In 2013 NPHS was named one of the top schools in the USA by both the Washington Post and Newsweek.
